Working together
Helping Thalassaemia Patients
We believe that successful companies have a moral obligation to give back to the local communities and here at Trans Maldivian we are proud to sponsor flights for those suffering from Thalassaemia.
Maldivian Thalassaemia Society
Did you know that with eighteen percent of the population, the Maldives has the world’s highest incidence rate of thalassaemia? This inherited disorder affects the body’s ability to produce red blood cells, and, if left untreated, can be fatal. The treatment involves blood transfusions twice a month. About 50% of the Maldivian patients – many of them are children – receive blood transfusion treatment in the country’s only clinic specialized in thalassaemia located in the capital Male’. Many have to travel to Male’ for this treatment.
How we help
To alleviate some of the financial burden to the families of those with thalassaemia, Trans Maldivian Airways offers their services free of charge. A one-off registration with TMA and the submission of a request form with a one day notice, is all that is required for thalassaemia affected children and their parents to be flown to Male from the requested TMA destination free of charge. Trans Maldivian Airways has been providing a valuable and much appreciated service to the Maldives nationals making the lives of thalassaemia sufferers easier.
