The Flying Green Fund

The Flying Green Fund

Trans Maldivian Airways is engaged in several environmental projects throughout the Maldives, helping the local communities in their endeavors to preserve the islands for future generations.

The Flying Green Fund
The Flying Green Fund was established by Trans Maldivian Airways as the company strongly believes that the local environment is incredibly precious and critical for future generations.

Main aim:
Trans Maldivian Airways believes that the local communities and a healthy environment are paramount in this island nation. Trees are vital for improving air quality and enhance the already beautiful scenery that these local islands are blessed with, hence increasing the quality of life.

From the 1st of April 2011 Trans Maldivian Airways has been donating one dollar for every return passenger that has flown with them to the Flying Green Fund.

When it was officially launched on 21st of October 2011 on the island of Hinnavaru, the Flying Green Fund donated MRF 1,000,000 (approx $65,000) to the local community and planted 1200 trees to kick-start its tree-planting project. It is vital that local islands have lush vegetation as the greener the island is, the healthier the environment is for the local population. TMA is committed to ensure that the funds are spent in the appropriate manner, and monitors the progress regularly.

How you can help:
Guests of the Maldives are encouraged to lend their support to the initiative by purchasing a Flying Green wrist band from the TMA terminal shop. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this purchase will go straight into the Flying Green Fund.

Further information & resources:
Aware of the fact that it is very difficult for an airline to be one hundred percent environmentally friendly, TMA is committed to supporting local communities to protect their precious environment in the long term, and has new projects planned.
